By Type

Resting: Resting pipe supports or shoes are used to support the weight of heavy pipes. These pipes do not allow much movement of the pipes; therefore, they are widely used where very little or no pipe movement is expected. These supports prevent the downward sagging of the pipe due to weight, as the sagging can damage the pipes. A curved platform known as a saddle is attached to the structure and is ideally used or insulated pipes. A shoe provides a large surface area for the pipe to rest on. Choice of the shoe depends on size and weight of the pipe.

Guided: Guided pipe support or pipe support guide allows axial movement of pipe; however, it restrains the pipe from moving sideways. Guided supports can be attached to the base after the pipe is installed or can be fabricated with the base of the pipe. These supports are designed to restrict the pipes’ movement in one or two, directions depending on the requirement. For the pipes that are routed in a vertical direction, these pipe supports come in a shape of a box. These box-shaped guided supports wrap around the pipe and the shoe to prevent it from moving. These supports are used where they need to keep the pipe in a specific position. Pipes may move from their places after multiple cycles for contraction and expansion. Guided supports hinder the movement of the pipes and keep the pipes in their place.

Hanger: Hanger pipe supports are used to support hanging or suspended pipes or pipes that are not lying on an underlying support. These supports restrict the vertical movement of the pipes. Many hangers allow lateral movement of the pipes. Hangers can be rigid, constant support hangers and variable spring support hangers. Overhead hanging piping is done only if there is an absolute need for them, as factors such as thermal expansion, vibration abrasions, energy loss, weight of the pipe, and pipe ruptures cause pipes to move these movements can cause hangers to break, which can cause fatalities.

Anchor: An anchor support restricts the pipe from moving in all three dimensions, while supports bare the weight, and thrust the load of the pipes. These supports are designed in a way which restricts the movement and displacement of the pipes that are caused due to their thermal expansion, which can lead to energy loss, vibration abrasions, and pipe ruptures. Anchor supports themselves and have a little flexibility to maintain the integrity of structures, including pipes, insulations, and supports.

Other: The others segment includes clamps, axial restraint etc. which are usually used in horizontal pipes to restrict the centerline movement of the pipe. Lateral restraints, restraints aroused to prevent the movement of pipe perpendicular to its axis. Sway brace or supports are light in weight at the center of the spring, which restricts the movement of hanging pipe in either direction from the centerline of the spring. Other supports include hydraulic snubber, mechanical snubber, and limit stop.
