Artificial Intelligence is taking over the world with a storm. Right now, it is one of the most profound technologies in the world, whether it is about helping people, businesses, or communities to unlock their potential. Nowadays, AI is revolutionizing the healthcare industry. With the integration of AI into advanced medical devices, doctors can detect diseases in the early stages and save millions of lives.

One of the biggest revolutions in Artificial Intelligence technology is the launch of ChatGPT. Within just 5 days of its launch, ChatGPT, the platform acquired 1 million users. If it is compared to Instagram, it took Instagram approximately 2.5 months to reach the mark of 1 million downloads.

It has been almost 6 months since the launch of ChatGPT and everyone is still talking about how this advanced AI version is going to revolutionize the world, especially how it is going to make a huge impact on jobs across all the industries, but is it going to happen?

First let’s understand, what ChatGPT is.

What is ChatGPT and Why is it still Trending across the Globe?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, a US-based artificial intelligence research laboratory company. OpenAI was founded in 2015 by Sam Altman and Elon Musk. Musk stepped down in Feb 2018 to focus on Tesla and SpaceX.

ChatGPT

  • On 30th November 2022, OpenAI launched ChatGPT, (GPT stands for “Generative Pre-training Transformer”), a large language model-trained Artificial Intelligence. The ability of Chat GPT to generate codes, articles, and paragraphs with accurate human-like results, makes it a valuable tool for researchers, developers, and global tech companies. ChatGPT can be a valuable assistant for tech players in terms of coding, automation, and for training purposes.

  • In November 2022, OpenAI launched GPT-3, and now with the launch of its most advanced version, GPT-4, it is on the verge of changing the whole world, but the big question is...

How ChatGPT works?

First, let’s understand what is GPT and what is the difference between GPT and ChatGPT.

GPT stands for Generative pre-trained transformer. It is a transformer (language translator and now used for next-word prediction) that is already trained with a lot of data integration to predict what would come next based on the data.

Now, the GPT has a lot of data from across the web and it learns from the data. Using the neural networks, it predicts the underlying pattern of how the conversation happens based on probability. The same transformer is trained to be a chat assistant and then it became Chat GPT.

For example, if you search, "Hey I am John and What should I eat for breakfast?”

So now ChatGPT has a lot of data from the internet and there must be a John who has already asked this question before. Here, GPT understands “John” is the least important word and the most important word is “Eat.” It focuses on finding what this person wants to eat rather than “Who is John” and focusing on the underlying context of the sentence, it comes up with an answer.

Chat GPT interacts conversationally and the dialogue format makes it possible for Chat GPT to answer follow-up questions, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. The software is trained by machine learning and AI, with the integration of massive amounts of text data from various sources across the internet. It helps in correcting grammar, summarizes difficult text into simple concepts, and helps to fix bugs in Python code.

ChatGPT has some limitations when it comes to search something. If you want to search for something in ChatGPT, then you cannot just put a 40-page document there. ChatGPT has a context window and it has certain limitations for word search. It is 4096 tokens for GPT 3.5 version. For the latest GPT-4 version, it is 32k tokens.

GPT deals in tokens and here is the general idea of how token works

•    1 token ~= 4 English characters or almost a word
•    100 tokens ~=75 words
•    30 Tokens ~= 1 or 2 sentences

In case you exceed the token limit in ChatGPT, then simply it will show an error message.

You can see the race for AI has already started and all the big tech giants are focusing on integrating AI into their platforms to increase productivity and reduce errors. Believe it or not, in the coming years, all industries are going to make some kind of change in their work culture by integrating AI, but how is it going to take place?

How Chat GPT can be used for Industrial Purposes?

On March 13, 2023, OpenAI launched GPT-4, a powerful new image- and text-understanding AI model. GPT-4 is powered by a large amount of advanced computing technological data which allows it to predict how words should be used in a creative and meaningful way. ChatGPT can be used for different purposes across various industries such as -

1.    Customer Support

With the use of Chat GPT, organizations can automate the customer support processes, such as providing support for common issues, answering frequently asked questions (FAQs), and resolving simple questions. Organizations can reduce the workload on customer staff and improve customer satisfaction by integrating ChatGPT into the customer support apps for 24x7 customer support service.

2.    Coding and Automation

One of the things ChatGPT can do more efficiently is Coding. This machine-learning technology is set to revolutionize how people write the language for software applications. ChatGPT has the potential to generate code in various programming languages, including Java, Python, and JavaScript. The current version of ChatGPT uses Python as the primary programming language, but its ability to understand the language and keep improving makes it an advanced tool for coding and automation.

3.    Training & Education

GPT-4 can be used for educational purposes, as it can generate educational data with creative puzzles, exercises, and lesson plans. It can also be used for training and educational purposes for employees and provide personalized feedback and support, which makes the training programs more efficient and effective.

Using Chat GPT, people who run online businesses can help customers with live chat quarriers, which don’t take all day, and feels much more natural. This helps business owners to make sales. The tech world describes Chat GPT as a look into the future.

The Times newspaper in the UK described ChatGPT as
“Stunningly lifelike conversational language system” and “World’s first truly used Chatbot

Is ChatGPT the only advanced chatbot available in the World?

Today, almost every industry uses some kind of Artificial Intelligence, whether it is ChatGPT or ML (Machine Learning) for automation purposes. s the world’s two tech giants, Google and Microsoft, have entered into the race of Artificial Intelligence by integrating AI into their search engines, things are going to change rapidly across the world.

Microsoft Bing AI

Microsoft Bing

On Feb 7, 2023, Microsoft announced the integration of ChatGPT into Bing (A Microsoft search engine) to enhance users’ search experience and productivity. In January 2023, Microsoft signed a deal reportedly worth $10 billion with OpenAI to license and incorporate ChatGPT into Microsoft Bing.

With the integration of ChatGPT on Bing, Microsoft’s ability to understand complex queries with precision and greater depth will allow them to gain more inputs on user intent through personal and conversational engagement.

Bing AI has three conversational styles: Creative, Balanced, and Precise. The precise mode focuses on delivering factual and shorter answers while the Creative mode generates longer and more imaginative answers.

Using Bing AI’s creative mode, you can ask Bing to create a brand-new image of anything. You just need to ask ‘Create me an image of’ with a precise description of what you want in that image. Bing will deliver the image within a fraction of a second.

Google Bard

Google Brad

On the other hand, to compete with Microsoft, on March 21, 2023, Google officially introduced its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Google Bard. First, Google invited users to join the waitlist, but then in the Google I/O 2023 event held on May 10, Google removed the waiting list and made Bard available to users across 180 countries.

At the same event, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, announced the launch of ‘Help me write’, which is an AI-enabled version of Gmail that generates instant responses to emails virtually in seconds.

Compared to Bing AI, BARD answers questions faster and offers 3 drafts of the answers and you can choose any of them. For better understanding, BARD uses machine learning techniques and natural language processing. Bard runs on a language called Lambda. BARD also offers a more interactive reading experience. While reading, you can underline essential passages, make notes, and ask questions.

Is Artificial Intelligence going to change the world?

One of the many ways AI will change the world is through AI integration in search engines and social media apps. For example, on Feb 27, 2023, Snapchat announced the launch of My AI, a new chatbot running the latest version of ChatGPT. First, it was just available for Snapchat+ subscribers, but recently the company made it available for everyone.

Koo, an India-based startup company, is an alternative platform for Twitter that has integrated ChatGPT into Koo for creators. Basically, on create screen there is an idea button (A bulb), where you can ask for any kind of assistance such as -

‘Get me a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo’ or ‘Write me a poem’ or anything else.

All of these AI-based features and search engines are integrating AI to attract users and offer them advanced and precise information just with one click. Although it looks good, there are some real concerns about AI.

This ongoing AI integration is going to affect a lot of jobs. It can generate a huge amount of misinformation and manipulate a lot of people. If AI ends up in the wrong hands, such as a group of people with a lot of data, then it will be easy to manipulate people, elections, and governments, because there’s no limit to Artificial Intelligence. AI does not understand limits.

Addressing the same concern, Elon Musk said in an interview with Fox News Channel -

“I'm going to start something which I call ‘TruthGPT’ or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe and TruthGPT might be the best path to the safety that would be unlikely to annihilate humans.”

In the end, Artificial Intelligence is an assistant for every human being. It is going to keep getting better and will become a part of us at some point in time, whether we choose to integrate it into our daily life or not. But the question remains the same -

Is it a Curse or Boon?

We will see in the coming years…
