The Poland renewable energy market size is anticipated to expand at a significant CAGR during the forecast period, 2021–2028. The growth of the market is attributed to the several government initiatives that emphasize transitioning its power output from coal to renewable fuels.
The renewable energy market in Poland is fragmented. Renewable energy sources assist to diversify energy sources and fulfil the country's growing energy demand from greener sources. To reach its objective of 15% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2020, the government plans to expand its solar PV contribution. Poland has extended its plans until 2030 in order to increase its renewable energy share in the energy mix. Furthermore, Poland has a large industrial potential for developing the offshore wind energy sector. As a result, market expansion in the offshore wind industry, as well as further efforts to reach the 2030 objective, is likely to offer an opportunity in the near future.
During the year 2018, Poland has three wind farms under development, with a total capacity of about 97.2 MW. By the middle of 2020, the projects are expected to be completed. In addition, Poland has three wind farm projects under development, each with a capacity of about 132 MW. The projects are expected to increase Poland's onshore wind energy capacity. Poland, Europe's largest coal exporter and second-largest coal consumer, is gradually but steadily converting to renewables in order to increase energy security and reach the European Union's objective of 15% renewable energy by 2020.
The report on the Poland renewable energy market includes an assessment of the market, trends, segments, and regional markets. Overview and dynamics have also been included in the report.

Wind segment is projected to account for a key market share
In terms of types, the Poland renewable energy market is divided into wind, hydropower, solar, and others. The wind segment is expected to account for a key share of the market during the forecast period owing to the increasing projects being introduced in the country. In 2018, Poland's wind energy installed capacity was about 5.9 gigawatts, with the capacity projected to grow in the following years. As of 2018, there were a lot of onshore wind energy projects going on, but there were no offshore wind installations. Poland's government is set to start a process to transition its wind energy industry to renewables with its "Distance Act." After 2020, the nation is expected to stop issuing licenses for onshore wind installations.
On the other hand, the solar segment is anticipated to expand at a rapid pace during the forecast period due to favorable government regulations and rising investments. Solar is presently being supported by the Polish government through net metering (up to 40 kW) and an auction process for large-scale installations beyond 40 kW. The two systems, which replaced the green certificate method, were implemented in July 2016 as part of the new renewable energy law. Operators of PV systems up to 10 kilowatts (kW) are repaid 80% for each kilowatt they pump into the energy grid under the net metering plan, while owners of PV installations between 10 and 40 kW are refunded 70%. The government held three auctions till 2018 in terms of the auction procedure. A total of 554 solar projects were chosen, resulting in almost 8000 terawatt-hours (TWh) of power being sold for USD 579 million. The auction-awarded solar project is likely to boost the solar PV sector in the future.
Key players competing in the Poland renewable energy market include PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA, Akuo Energy SAS, Engie SA, Dalkia France SA, SGS SA, General Electric Company, EIP Energy Sp. z o. o., KRD Global Group Sp. z o.o., and Energix Renewable Energies Ltd. Some of these players are investing in several business strategies such as mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, collaborations, capacity expansion, and product launches to enhance their market shares.
