Glass Fiber Roofing Shingle Market to Reach USD 18.50 Billion by 2034 as Makers Add Plants After a 2025 Slump

By Growth Market Reports Research, published , updated

Ontario, California, 28 September 2026. The global glass fiber roofing shingle market was worth USD 13.83 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 18.50 billion by 2034, a CAGR of 3.3%, according to the new Glass Fiber Roofing Shingle Market report from Growth Market Reports. The report finds manufacturers adding shingle and glass mat capacity across North America, even though North American shipments fell sharply in 2025 after the heavy 2024 storm season.

New plants arrive after a down year

U.S. and Canadian asphalt shingle shipments fell 10.3% in 2025, including a 27.9% drop in the fourth quarter, according to the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA). Owens Corning's reading of ARMA data puts U.S. demand at 154 million squares in 2025, down from 172 million in 2024. Producers are building anyway. IKO opened a fiberglass plant and a 325,000 square foot glass mat plant in South Carolina in March 2026, completing more than USD 500 million of investment, and then opened its USD 240 million Clay Hill campus in Florida in June, its eighth modern shingle line in North America. Saint-Gobain completed a more than USD 100 million expansion that doubles capacity at CertainTeed's Peachtree City, Georgia shingle plant. Amrize says the Malarkey plant in Franklin, Indiana will be commissioned by the end of 2026, and GAF's plant in Newton, Kansas, where ground was broken in June 2025, starts production in 2027 and reaches full capacity by mid-2029.

Demand is already turning

Owens Corning's Roofing sales fell 14% in the first quarter of 2026 and rose 1% to USD 1,313 million in the second quarter. Amrize reported second-quarter Building Envelope revenue up 9.4% and raised its 2026 outlook to high single-digit residential roofing volume growth. Costs remain a risk: Owens Corning flagged about USD 40 million of extra third-quarter costs linked to the Iran conflict.

Laminates and reroofing dominate

Laminated (architectural) shingles earn 79% of 2025 market value, while luxury designer shingles are the fastest-growing product type and strip 3-tab shingles shrink toward a repair niche. Renovation and reroofing account for 85% of value and residential roofs for 91%. Roofing distributors handle 80% of sales, while online stores are the fastest-growing channel from a small base. Hail is a large part of the replacement story: severe convective storms caused more than USD 50 billion of U.S. insured losses for a third straight year, and hail drives up to 80% of those claims, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

North America leads, Latin America grows fastest

North America holds 87.31% of global value, followed by Europe at 6.58%, Asia Pacific at 5.46%, Latin America at 0.43% and the Middle East and Africa at 0.22%. Latin America is the fastest-growing region at a 6.4% CAGR, from a small, import-led base. The top five companies hold about 70% of global value.

"Shingle makers are building for the next storm cycle, not the last one. With new plants from IKO, CertainTeed, Malarkey and GAF coming on line between 2026 and 2029, buyers should see steadier supply, and the real competition will be in impact-resistant and premium laminates, where makers can still earn a price premium."
