Electronic-Grade Hydrofluoric Acid Market to Reach USD 1.96 Billion by 2034 as Feedstock Costs Jump and Suppliers Raise Prices
By Growth Market Reports Research, published , updated
Ontario, California, 28 September 2026. The global electronic-grade hydrofluoric acid market was worth USD 1.11 billion in 2025 and will reach USD 1.96 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 6.5% over 2025 to 2034, according to the new Electronic-Grade Hydrofluoric Acid Market report from Growth Market Reports. The report finds a market where feedstock costs, not only chip demand, are setting the pace in 2026: suppliers are raising prices to chipmakers after the cost of the hydrogen fluoride they refine jumped by a quarter in a single quarter.
Feedstock costs jump, suppliers pass them on
Stella Chemifa, the largest listed pure-play supplier, reported that Japan's import price for hydrogen fluoride rose from JPY 307 per kg in the year to March 2026 to JPY 384 per kg in April to June 2026, an increase of about 25%. In the same quarter its semiconductor sales rose 10.2% to JPY 5,884 million on price pass-through, while profit in its high-purity chemicals business fell 9.6% as costs rose faster than prices. For the full year to March 2027 the company guides semiconductor sales up 9.5% to JPY 24,310 million, after shipping 73,800 tonnes of high-purity hydrofluoric acid for semiconductors in the year to March 2026. By Growth Market Reports' analysis, pass-through lifts market growth to about 8% in 2026 before it settles near 6% a year from 2027.
Chip fabs lead demand and take the purest grades
Semiconductor wafer cleaning and oxide etching is the largest application, at 61% of 2025 revenue, and also the fastest growing, as capacity for AI logic and high-bandwidth memory adds cleaning and etch steps per wafer. SEMI projects 300mm fab equipment spending to rise 18% to USD 133 billion in 2026 and to USD 151 billion in 2027, and global semiconductor materials revenue reached a record USD 73.2 billion in 2025, with double-digit growth in wet chemicals. The purest SEMI G5 (UP-SSS) grade, needed for advanced 12-inch wafers, is the largest grade at 31% of revenue and the fastest-growing one. Acid sold at the standard 49% to 50% strength carries 72% of revenue, while premixed dilute acid grows fastest as fabs cut the handling of concentrated acid. Bulk deliveries in ISO tanks and tank lorries earn 58% of revenue and gain share as new fabs are designed for bulk supply.
Asia Pacific dominates, North America grows fastest
Asia Pacific uses 86.4% of the acid by value, led by China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, where most wafers, display panels and solar cells are made. North America holds 6.7%, Europe 5.0%, the Middle East and Africa 1.4% and Latin America 0.5%. North America is the fastest-growing region at a 10.6% CAGR as fabs in Arizona and Texas ramp and chemical suppliers follow them: Kanto group's KPPC Advanced Chemicals broke ground on a USD 120 million-plus ultrapure chemicals plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, with production planned for late 2027.
China adds capacity, but few producers reach G5
China has about 30 producers of electronic-grade hydrofluoric acid, but only a minority reach G5. Befar produced 6,404.59 tonnes of G5 acid in 2025 on a 6,000-tonne line and targets 6,600 tonnes for 2026. Do-Fluoride reported first-half 2026 electronic materials revenue up 37.3%, a rebound after its lines ran well below capacity in 2025. By Growth Market Reports' analysis, the top five companies, Stella Chemifa, Formosa Daikin, Soulbrain, Morita and Kanto Chemical, hold about 38% of global revenue.
"Buyers of electronic-grade hydrofluoric acid have spent years negotiating on purity and qualification. In 2026 the conversation has turned to feedstock. When the cost of hydrogen fluoride moves by a quarter in three months, contract terms that link price to feedstock decide who carries the margin squeeze. The fabs with the most room to negotiate are the ones that have qualified more than one supplier and more than one supply region, which is why local plants near new US fabs matter as much as the next purity step."
