Vietnam Instant Coffee Manufacturers: Who Makes It, at What Scale, and How to Choose a Supplier in 2026

By Growth Market Reports Research, published , updated

Vietnam's instant coffee is made by two kinds of companies. Bulk soluble specialists, several of them foreign-owned, run spray-dried and freeze-dried plants that sell powder to brand owners abroad: ofi's Café Outspan, Tata Coffee Vietnam, ILD Coffee Vietnam, Intimex and Cà Phê Ngon. Branded makers such as Nestlé, Vinacafé Biên Hòa, Trung Nguyên Legend and Food Empire mainly fill their own sachets and jars, and some also make formulas for partners. This guide sets out who makes what, at what scale, and how to choose a supplier.

Why buyers source instant coffee from Vietnam

Vietnam is the world's largest robusta producer: the USDA forecasts 31.4 million bags of robusta in the 2026/27 season in its Vietnam Coffee Annual 2026. Instant coffee plants sit close to that raw material, and robusta is the bean most soluble blends are built on. The same report forecasts Vietnam's soluble coffee exports at 2.8 million 60 kg bags in 2026/27, up from 2.35 million bags in 2024/25, as new processing capacity comes on line.

Most of the value in this business is bulk trade. The global instant Vietnamese coffee market was worth USD 2.04 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 3.63 billion by 2034, a CAGR of 6.6%, according to the Growth Market Reports instant Vietnamese coffee market report. Black instant coffee, mostly bulk powder, makes up 70% of that value, and B2B and private label supply is the largest channel at 57%. In other words, most Vietnamese instant coffee is sold to another company before a consumer sees it, often under a different brand.

Trade data show how fast that export business has grown. Partner countries reported USD 1.50 billion of imports of Vietnamese coffee extracts (HS 2101.11) and instant mixes (HS 2101.12) in 2025, against USD 0.87 billion in 2024, in UN Comtrade. Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade reports that processed coffee exports rose 30% in 2023, 35% in 2024 and more than 60% in the first eight months of 2025.

Spray-dried vs freeze-dried vs 3-in-1: what to buy

The first sourcing decision is the product, because it narrows the supplier list quickly.

  • Spray-dried powder is the lower-cost format, made by spraying coffee extract into hot air. It suits economy jars, sachet mixes and industrial uses. ofi, Intimex and Cà Phê Ngon run spray-drying lines.
  • Freeze-dried crystals keep more aroma and sell at a higher price. Tata Coffee Vietnam, ILD Coffee Vietnam and ofi make them today, and Food Empire's new plant adds capacity from 2028.
  • 3-in-1 and 2-in-1 mixes blend instant coffee with sugar and creamer. A NESCAFÉ 3in1 sachet contains 12% instant coffee, so the mix price depends as much on sugar and creamer as on coffee. Branded makers such as Vinacafé Biên Hòa, Trung Nguyên Legend, Nestlé and Food Empire lead this format.

Trade data give a benchmark for each. In 2025 partner-country imports of Vietnamese coffee extracts (HS 2101.11) carried a unit value of about USD 12,720 per tonne, up from about USD 9,690 in 2024, while mixes (HS 2101.12) averaged about USD 6,360 per tonne, based on 2024 and 2025 UN Comtrade records. Those are averages across grades; freeze-dried lots price above spray-dried ones. For a view of the higher-priced tier, see our premium instant coffee market report.

The bulk soluble specialists

ofi (Café Outspan)

ofi, the food ingredients business of Olam Group, runs Café Outspan in Ho Chi Minh City, which it describes as the largest independent soluble coffee facility of its kind in Southeast Asia. It is ofi's first soluble coffee site, BRCGS certified, with spray-drying, freeze-drying and bulk production. For a brand owner that wants several formats from one approved supplier, it is the obvious first call.

Tata Coffee Vietnam

Tata's first coffee plant outside India was designed for 5,000 tonnes a year of freeze-dried coffee at VSIP II. In November 2023 the board approved a 5,500-tonne freeze-dried expansion costing about USD 53.3 million, as the plant was running at 96% utilization. Parent Tata Consumer Products reported 43% growth in its solubles business in the quarter to March 2026 on higher coffee volumes, according to its investor presentation. High utilization means new buyers should ask about lead times for the expansion volume.

ILD Coffee Vietnam

Louis Dreyfus Company and Instanta inaugurated ILD Coffee Vietnam in September 2023, a 5,600-tonne freeze-dried instant coffee plant in Binh Duong. The joint venture pairs a green coffee merchant with an instant coffee maker, which matters for buyers who want traceability from bean to crystal.

Intimex and Cà Phê Ngon

Intimex, one of Vietnam's largest green coffee groups, opened its instant coffee plant in December 2019 with up to 4,000 tonnes a year of spray-dried coffee on GEA Niro lines. Cà Phê Ngon runs a 10,000-tonne instant plant at Cu Kuin in Dak Lak and has sought provincial approval to lift it to 30,000 tonnes, with 6,000 tonnes a year of liquid coffee, according to the Dak Lak environmental assessment consultation. Both are Vietnamese-owned bulk suppliers close to the growing areas.

Branded makers that also supply partners

Vinacafé Biên Hòa, Vietnam's first instant coffee maker and 98.79% owned by Masan Beverage, reported 2025 net revenue of VND 2,761 billion, up 8%. It moved all production to Long Thanh Industrial Park in 2025, and its annual report says it builds exclusive instant coffee formulas for global partners to fill plant capacity. That makes it an option for buyers who want a ready 3-in-1 recipe rather than bulk powder.

Trung Nguyên Legend, maker of G7, broke ground on 25 June 2026 on a new instant coffee plant in Dak Lak with nearly VND 1,200 billion in phase one and operations planned for 2027. Food Empire, owner of MacCoffee and CaféPHỐ, reported that South-East Asia revenue rose 14.3% to USD 147.8 million in 2025, with Vietnam more than half, and is building an USD 80 million freeze-dried plant due by 2028. Nestlé makes Nescafé at Trị An, where it has invested more than VND 4,300 billion over 2024 and 2025; it is a competitor for most buyers rather than a supplier.

What drives the price you pay

Green coffee is the largest cost. The International Coffee Organization's conversion factor is 2.6 kg of green coffee per kg of soluble coffee, so bean prices move powder prices directly. USDA reports Vietnam's average coffee export price fell 9% to USD 5,127 per tonne in the first half of the 2025/26 season and was 22% lower year on year in March 2026. Buyers who locked 2025 contracts at record prices should expect lower quotes on renewals, although USDA also reports farm fertilizer and fuel costs up about 30% and labor up about 33%, which limits how far prices fall.

Trade rules to check before you sign

  • United States: coffee and coffee products are exempt from US reciprocal tariffs from 13 November 2025. North America is the fastest-growing region in our report, at a 9.6% CAGR.
  • European Union: the Council signed off a revision that postpones the EU deforestation regulation for all operators to 30 December 2026. Ask suppliers for plot-level traceability now; USDA reports about 40% of Vietnam's coffee area is sustainability certified.
  • HS codes: bulk powder and extracts ship under HS 2101.11, mixes under HS 2101.12. Duty rates differ, so confirm the code on the pro forma invoice.

How to choose a Vietnamese instant coffee supplier

  1. Match format to plant. Freeze-dried buyers have a short list (Tata Coffee Vietnam, ILD Coffee Vietnam, ofi); spray-dried and mix buyers have more choice.
  2. Check capacity headroom. A plant at high utilization may favor its existing contracts; new capacity due in 2027 and 2028 is a chance to negotiate early allocation.
  3. Ask for certifications. BRCGS or equivalent food safety certification, and deforestation traceability for EU-bound goods.
  4. Price on a green coffee formula. Link the powder price to a robusta benchmark and the 2.6 conversion factor, so both sides share bean price risk.
  5. Test the blend. Robusta-heavy Vietnamese powder is strong and bitter; order samples in the final recipe before committing volume.
